The Red Dragon by Thomas Harris opens up with characters Will Graham and Jack Crawford talking about the two similar murders of two seemingly dissimilar families. Though the cover of the book claims this to be the novel “that introduced Hannibal Lecter,” fans of Lecter may come out disappointed from his lack of meaningful appearances throughout the novel. In fact, Lecter’s role in the novel could be considered tertiary at best.
